Animals benefit from adjustments for the same reasons humans do: to alleviate pain, heal from injuries, enhance performance, boost functionality, prevent degeneration, promote overall health, and, most importantly, elevate their quality of life.
An animal chiropractor aims to enhance body function and mobility to re-establish connection with the nervous system, enabling the body to operate at its peak performance level.
Dr. Shelli's passion for animal chiropractic is deeply rooted in a personal journey. Growing up surrounded by a variety of animals through 4-H, including horses, cows, pigs, goats, rabbits, and chickens, she developed an early love for animal companionship. Throughout her life, she has always had a four-legged friend by her side. When Dr. Shelli entered chiropractic school, her German Shorthaired Pointer, Sierra, began experiencing severe idiopathic seizures. Despite trying various medications, Sierra's condition worsened, impacting her quality of life. Feeling helpless, Dr. Shelli turned to chiropractic care on her veterinarian's recommendation, hoping for a positive change.
Interestingly, her anatomy professor at Life University held dual titles as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and a Doctor of Chiropractic. Dr. Shelli consulted her professor about Sierra's case, ensuring Sierra's suitability for chiropractic care. Following a thorough examination, Sierra received her first adjustment, a pivotal moment that ignited Dr. Shelli's passion as Sierra never experienced another seizure thereafter. With the veterinarian's support, Sierra was gradually weaned off all medications. Dr. Shelli felt compelled to inspire her patients, pet owners, and animal enthusiasts with the hope and potential she witnessed.
Blending a passion for chiropractic care with a love for animals has fulfilled a lifelong dream. Dr. Shelli dedicated countless hours to studying at Options for Animals College of Chiropractic and gaining practical experience in animal-specific chiropractic techniques. Holding a certification from the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association (IVCA), Dr. Shelli aspires to share her knowledge by teaching at Options for Animals in the near future.
Some chiropractors may attempt to adjust animals without proper training. However, it's crucial to recognize that the spine, anatomy, and nervous system of animals differ from those of humans.
Therefore, we strongly recommend selecting a chiropractor or veterinarian who has completed a certified animal chiropractic program.
